Urban Daddy: Tacks Bracket: Scotch and Bourbon-y Nuts in Hayes Valley

Today is not the day for abstract thinking. It’s not the day for thinking at all. You’re probably still wearing a robe. Knocking sand out of your ears. Trying to get Kenny Chesney songs out of your head. No. Today is simply the day you learn of the humble new bar that’ll be waiting for you at the end of it… It’s called Brass Tacks, and it’s a come-as-you-damn-well-please watering hole with just enough bourbon-spiced almonds and cold beer to make it all okay again, now open in Hayes Valley. You don’t need a reason to come here. It’s just …

And as fairytales go, every queen must have her castle. Wasser wanted her Century City office space to be fresh, professional and chic but not intimidating. Up to the task was fellow Angeleno and interior designer, Sayre V. Ziskin. “She …

But two other elements may make Croft House’s story different from all the other retailers hawking reclaimed-wood furniture these days: location and price. Croft House founder Riley Rea started making his designs at a warehouse just south of downtown Los Angeles, selling the pieces to whomever stumbled across his posts on Craigslist. Now he and a core team of about a dozen people still mill …
